Benefits Of Blood Donation

We all have heard of the medical benefits of Blood donation, we shall also be discussing these medical benefits here in this article. But, a bigger question that we often ask ourselves, Are these benefits the reason for donating blood?

Donating blood is no doubt a very noble deed, irrespective of whether you are rich or poor, you can help others, an unknown one. With no expectations from that someone, you are not even looking for a ‘thank you’ from that person, still, you are donating a part of yours. The point here is that no benefit, that we are discussing here, can be greater than that of your noble and spiritual deed. With this article, Promiseforcare is taking the opportunity to thank all the blood donors for their selfless deed and for helping us (Doctors) to help others.

We know that you are the one who feels good inside by helping others, this article is our small but genuine effort in making YOU feel better. Lets now discuss some medical benefits of donating blood

Helps in reducing weight

In today’s time when we are living a sedentary lifestyle, the number of people with obesity is increasing at a very fast rate. Donating blood helps in reducing weight, the efforts go into replenishing the blood burns around 500 calories which is equivalent to 2 Hrs of the walk.

A note of caution: Blood Donation is not a weight loss program, it is for motivation purposes only.

Lowers risk of Cardiac diseases

Sometimes, excess iron gets stored in the heart which can result in cardiac disease over a period of time. Regular blood donation helps in maintaining the healthy level of iron in the body hence reduces the risk of cardiac arrest.

Lowers risk of cancer and other diseases of Liver and Pancreas

Again, by maintaining the optimum and healthy level of iron in the body by regular blood donation as per medical advice, the individual is at lower risk of diseases of Liver, Pancreas and Cancer.

Overall good health

Donating blood stimulates the production of new blood cells, this helps in maintaining overall good health.

Blood Test for Free

As a prerequisite, you get a mini-medical test, your temperature, blood pressure, pulse and hemoglobin shall be checked before you donate the blood. After blood donation, your blood is tested for diseases like Syphilis, HIV, Hepatitis and Malaria.

The donor is informed immediately if any of these tests are found positive during the blood tests so that you can take medical treatment as early as possible.
